History Week 2: Nov. 11, 2021 - Passion
Study/Learn
- In the 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader by John Maxwell, read the chapter on passion
- Ask the 5 types of questions and write your answers in your commonplace book and bring it to class, this is your ticket into class today, so don't forget it. Write at least 3 principles from the chapter and add them to this doc. Write them in the "if...then..." format.
- Do a word study on passion
- Watch these videos. Take notes in your commonplace book on what you learn.
- Look up and explain in your own words, in your common place book, about the Code of Justinian and why it's important for us to know about and how it changed life for the people in the Byzantine Empire.
- Listen to this excerpt from Mere Christianity by CS Lewis (listen from 16:32-44:04) Or if you own the book, you can read it. Read Book 1: Chapters 1-3
- Study the notecards labeled "1". (The "1" are for this month, "2" is for Jan, "3" for March after Eureka is over and "4" is April.)
Know/Understand
- This week we're going to talk about Natural Law and First Principles. Look at the following list of First Principles and find at least 2 scriptures that back up each principle AND an example from real life, literature or the scriptures that explains or expounds or is an example of ONE of the points (either because someone is living or NOT living this principle) and write it in your common place book. Be ready for a discussion in class.
- People should choose right
- People should be held accountable for their choices
- People reap what they sow. (The Law of the Harvest)
- All people should tell the truth
- Those who have more should help those who have less
Become/Serve
What are you passionate about? You looked into this in Bro. Jessee's class earlier this year. Make a list of 5 things you are passionate about. What makes you passionate about them? Are any of them moral or ethical issues? At the end of our chapter in 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader, we read about Gen. Billy Mitchell and his passion for flying. We read, "He was willing to pay any price to do what he knew what right. How about you?" Ponder on this questions and journal about the price you are willing to pay to do what you know is right and to follow your passions.
